After phone operators, banks, and a short foray into public transport, Heřman is set to manage a Polish coal mine

Jiří Paštika is leaving his position as Chairman of the Board at the Polish coal-mining company Przedsiębiorstwo Górnicze “SILESIA” (PG Silesia), an affiliate of Energetický a průmyslový holding (Energy and Industrial Holding) since 2010. While he was at the rudder, the Czech group invested the equivalent of around CZK 3bn into the mine. Coal mining operations started last spring.

Paštika’s appointed successor is Michal Heřman (48) whose career features top management positions in Komerční banka (Merchant Bank), Eurotel, Český Telecom (Czech Telecom), and the Russian Alfa Bank. Last summer, he spent about two months as the Financial Manager of Dopravní podnik hl.m. Prahy (Prague Public Transport Company). Heřman is rather a surprising choice. The months to come will show whether or not the appointment was a blunder, to put it mildly.
